Genital warts are sexually transmitted viral infection that affects both men and women of any age. They are found in the genital region and anal areas of its victims, hence the name of the disease. The wart infection is very contagious and therefore the treatment of genital warts is recommended as soon as possible. In infected children though, it has been forwarded that an investigation for a possible sexual abuse be done since the infection is normally transmitted through a sexual contact.

There are many ways and means for the treatment of genital warts and its prompt administration is encouraged because of the highly contagious nature of the viral infection. It has no symptoms aside from the growth of warts but it is important that it is known as such to prevent its transmission to a sexual partner. Any trauma on the warts can also cause it to bleed.

For a widespread infection, laser treatment is the recommended treatment of genital warts. It is also used for infections that are recurrent. A laser treatment is painful and may require the administration of anesthesia, which might just be local or regional. But if it does not work, then general anesthesia is administered.

Laser is very effective in destroying the human papillomavirus or HPV that is causing the infection. However, it is quite expensive and causes scars. This particular treatment of genital warts also has a longer healing time. The laser treatment also can emit viral particles in the air that are infectious.
